The Night Vet

How it works

Why some medicines need an extra step

Most things in our shop you can simply buy. A few need a vet or a qualified colleague to look first — that is the law, and it is there to keep your pet safe. Here is what each one means for you.

Food, accessories and everyday medicines

Add to basket, pay, and we deliver. Nothing else needed.

This covers food, supplements, beds, and medicines authorised for general sale — wormers and flea treatments you would find on a shelf.

Medicines that need a few questions

Answer a short questionnaire, and a qualified member of our team checks it.

Some medicines are safe for most pets but not all — it depends on weight, age, whether they are pregnant, and what else they are taking. The questions take about a minute, and you are not charged unless we approve it.

Medicines that need a prescription

Send us the written prescription from the vet who examined your pet.

These can only be supplied against a prescription from a vet who has seen your animal. Send us a photo or scan, and one of our vets checks it against the practice that wrote it. Again, nothing is charged until it is approved.

You are not sure what they need

Talk to a vet over video for a flat £35.

If your pet is unwell and you do not know what would help, a consultation is the right place to start. A vet can prescribe during it if that is what is needed.

What happens after you send a request

  1. 1 We email you a reference straight away, so you know it arrived.
  2. 2 A vet or a qualified colleague reviews it — usually within one working day.
  3. 3 If they need anything else, we ask. Your request waits rather than being refused.
  4. 4 If it is approved, we email you to pay. That is the first time any money is taken.
  5. 5 We make it up, pack it, and send it. You are emailed at each of those steps.

You can follow all of it in your account.
